The margins of an eBook should be small and need to be uniform.
When you look at print books, the margin is bigger on the left and smaller on the right depending on which side is near the spine. That is not the same case with eBooks.
The margins of an eBook should be the same on both the sides. When you format an eBook, make sure you remember to keep the size of margins the same.
It is best to have 5pt on top and bottom of the page. You can keep a 8 pt margin on the left and right hand side of the eBook. Remember not to have larger margins because it would make the eBook look like a form, which, in turn would hinder the reading experience.
